For an unknown franchise to be granted such a treasure trove of a Collectors Edition shows that both the devs and publishers had complete faith in the quality of the title. And they were right. This Edition is a wonderful addition to any collection, let alone the game proving a must-have title for any gamer.
First and most striking is the metal bat-shaped case which holds all the goodies. Given the success of Nolan's films about the Dark Knight, this is an instantly-cool and attention-grabbing piece.
Contained within, aside from a copy of the Vanilla Edition of the game (no unique cover art, which is a shame), are three physical items: (1) A 14 inch Batarang with a stand; (2) Arkham Doctor's Journal with a leather dust jacket; (3) An additional DVD featuring bonus 'Behind the Scenes' and 'Making Off' documentaries. There is only one place to begin with this stash, really. The Batarang. Styled after the in-game model, this item is an actual (sharp) full scale replica of the Batman's most famous weapon. Eidos did court some controversy with the decision to include these pieces, but I for one m very glad they stuck to their guns. Given the burgeoning market on owning replica equipment from films and games, this alone makes the Edition worth the asking price.
The Doctor's Journal is a 48 page manual covering the famous Batman Villans who appear within the game, both as direct enemies and hidden references. A nice little primer on those who might not be aware of a few of the obscurer ones that ardent comic fans would. The faux leather dust jacket is of a decent enough quality, but truly does take back stage to the Batarang.
In-game content-wise, this Edition sadly missed so many opportunities. There could have been additional excusive Batarang upgrades at the very least (which could have allowed a fantastic Edition title), but no. All that is included is a code for an exclusive Challenge Map titled 'Crime Alley'. This is for a mode separate from the main game, and had proven to be a 'love-it or hate-it' feature for many gamers.
