Special Edition - Assassins Creed 2 (Film Edition)

Also known as the 'Lineage Edition', this is of three Special Edition for this title, showing that Ubisoft offered plenty of alternatives for those who might not be content with the bonuses of a single choice.  The cheapest of the lot, this Film Edition may indeed offer the most value for a collector interested in the game series.

There are two physical bonuses included, the most prominent of which gives this Edition its title - a separate 36 minute film entitled 'Assassins Creed Lineage'.  A compiliation of three short sequences directed as promotional material for the game and released on Youtube, the film serves as a prequel to the vents that unfold in the game, and are centred around Ezio's father and his dealings with an assassin attempted to kill a leading member of the ruling Medici family, which would threaten the unity of Renaissance Italy.  This Edition is the only means by which a physical copy of the film can be obtained, and is well worth a viewing.  The other physical bonus are three lithograpgies from the tie-in comic book.  Nicely produced, these may well prove to be collectible within the future.

So far as in-game content goes, this Edition contains two bonus Templar lair locations for the player to explore: the Santa Maria Dei Frari and the Palazzo Medici, both of which are short but fun interludes to the main game.

Nota bene: Both of these pieces of content, as noted in the reviews of the alternative editions, have since been made available, in both the GotY Edition and through the DLC episdoe 'Sequence 13: Bonfire of the Vanities'.

The RRP is a tad steep for what is included, but otherwise the content provides enough amusement both in-game and out to be worthy of an Edition.
