Limited Edition - Mass Effect

A tidy little bundle here, that doesn't pack much of a punch on first appearances.  As an unknown franchise, Bioware included a good selection of staples to explain the background and genesis of the title, but it is a true shame that they neglected to include any exclusive content for in-game use, of which the nature of Mass Effect's weapon and armour system could have been ideally suited for.  Fair enough that this angle was taken - some might say to the extreme - for the sequel, but it would have been nice with this original game.

Alongside the steelbook tin engraved with the default face of Commander Shepherd, the game's central character, and his nemesis Saren,  purchasers find two books.  (1) A 'Galactic Codex: Essetials', covering the same information gradually found out in-game, but it is nice to have it as a mini-atlas to the basic Mass Effect Universe; and (2) 'A Future Imagined', which contains a collecition of the choicest pieces of concept art developed during the game's production.  Both of these are short, but sweet.

A bonus DVD is also included, which holds videos detailing the creation of the title in great detail, as well as an additional bonus gallery of concept art that consists of over 600 pieces.  In addition to these, however, also included on disc is a cornucopia of goodies, which consists of: (1) 10 songs from the Original SOundtrack, (2) Five trailers of the title (a tad redundant, but still nice to track how the game was advertised in stages of development); and (3) A huge selection of 18 gamer pictures and 16 (yes, you read that correctly) Dashboard Themes.  Some of these have been made available as purchasable DLC, it is true, but the majority haven't.  Given the release date, it is worth pointing out that these are Standard, not Premium Themes that became enabled with the NXE update a couple of years later.

All in all, a very worthy Limited Edition, certainly made so in part by the vast collection of Themes.
