Collectors Edition - Fallout: New Vegas
There are plenty of little perfectly themed items contained within this Collectors Edition, but the biggest thing about it is, to be perfectly frank, the price. Whether or not this factor is lived up to shall be the focus of this review.
Beginning simply with the in-game content - there is none. No exclusive digital content is included.
The Making Of DVD contains a number of interesting interviews concerning the creation of the game world, and how is was made so very different from that within its predecessor. Drawing from so many different pieces of canon, especially given the setting's proximity to the setting featured within the first two games before Bethesda changed the direction of the series completely, was not an easy task - but the discussions concerning making everything fit together, along with creating new and interesting ideas makes this a worthwhile watch.
Fallout: New Vegas - All Roads, a hardcover graphic novel that details the events leading up to the plot within the game reflects a growing trend within the industry for utilizing this medium. Again, semi-interesting, but a single read is sufficient, and it is unlikely to draw an owner back to its pages repeatedly, as a one-shot. The best thing about the book is that it does look nice displayed on a shelf - though easy to mistake for a Guide or artbook - of which it really is neither.
The biggest draw of the Edition is ultimately the smaller gimicky items; and these will be what makes or breaks the lure for many. Not only is there a 'fully customised' Deck of New Vegas Cards, made with imagery from in-game casinos, factions and characters, but also seven 'Lucky 7' Casino Chips, each a different colour and denomination, along with a single oversized 'Lucky 38' Platinum Chip, a recreation of a major in-game plot item.
All told, not a great deal. Very cool items, but just not enough to justify the additional pricetag, especially given the amount of poker chips (admittedly much less stylish) included within the Dead Rising 2: High Stakes Edition. Enough for at least two players to enjoy a game would have made this Edition a 'Must Have' rather than the 'Bust' I regrettably believe that it is.
