The practice of publishers offering such bonuses is becoming more commonplace, and is now an accepted part of the hobby. Yet many customers are forced to choose between several options, with multiple retailers desiring a unique piece of content to encourage custom to themselves. Short of paying over-the-top prices, there is usually little to no chance of finding this additional content anywhere else.
As each new title has details released, they will be collected under their own topic, updated as and when further details become available.
A larger database of all such content for every game released on this current generation of consoles is forthcoming.
For the purposes of clarification, the following terms are used throughout this site:
- Preorder Bonus - A piece of content attained through preordering a title, usually retailer exclusive, but this is not necessarily so. Not commonly made available after a title has been released, so the window for acquiring such content is limited.
- Additional Content - In-game content unlocked through a means other than purchased through a consoles marketplace or a preorder bonus. Usually widely available, and could come from a variety of sources, including other games.
- Vanilla Edition - Standard, bare-bones release of a title, widely available.
- Collectors Edition - An edition which contains either additional material or a unique packaging to set it apart from the Vanilla Edition. More expensive, depending upon bonus content. Usually made in limited numbers, but not restriced solely to preorders of a title.
- Limited Edition - As per Collectors Edition, but usually produced in smaller quantities and available only through preorder.
- Special Edition - Uncommon, but normally exclusive to a particular retailer, containing themed content.
I hope this site will prove useful to gamers.
